    This workshop, organized jointly with members of FSFE's Free Your Android program, the Replicant project and F-Droid will be dedicated to software freedom on mobile devices. It is an occasion to learn more about the stakes of freedom on mobile devices and see what free software exists today to help liberate your device. Especially, the team will be there to guide attendees through the installation of free software on mobile devices. Various devices running with free software will also be shown during the workshop, such as the Goldelico GTA04 and other Replicant-supported devices.

    With the objectives of developing affordable laboratory equipment and training science teachers, ExpEYES is from the PHOENIX project of Inter-University Accelerator Centre, New Delhi. It is an Open Hardware and Free Software framework for developing science experiments, classroom demonstrations and projects without getting in to the details of electronics or computer programming. It converts your PC into a portable science laboratory.

    ExpEYES can be used to perform a large number of experiments. For example, the device can be used to study electromagnetic induction, interference of sound waves, Lissajous Figures, to measure gravity by time of flight, alongside many other applications. Concepts like Lissajous Figures and Electromagnetic induction are quite difficult for most students. ExpEYES allows the study of fast changing phenomena and is an effective tool for exploring electromagnetic phenomena and the laws of electromagnetic induction-namely, Faraday’s law and Lenz’s law. The ability to capture real-time graphs offers the important benifit for students to better visualize the associated phenomena and develop a deeper understanding of it.

    In this workshop we will be demonstrating and discussing how ExpEYES can be used to explore and study various phenomena like Interference of Sound, Lissajous Figures and Electromagnetic Induction in different situations: a magnet oscillating in a coil, magnet falling through a coil, a ferromagnetic material and a magnet swinging over a coil.

    The workshop will begin with a brief introduction on microcontrollers and soldering techniques. Then soldering of components to make the board by each candidate will be done and this will be tested by each candidate themselves. Later boot loader will be burned and simple codes such as blinking an LED will be tried and working of ADC’s and I/O pins will be explained.

    Also there is no complex IDE for MicroHOPE. A simple text editor with a couple of buttons to invoke avrgcc and avrdude ( to compile and upload the code) is what we have. Hence coding on the device is very simple, and simple intro will be only necessary and the rest can be achieved by the candidates through their own experiments.

    There are many scientific devices suitable for connection with a computer. Unfortunately, a lot of them do not have software adapted for them. For the teachers of sciences (physics, chemistry, biology...), heterogeneous devices are very unpleasant, because differences in software, according to the hardware. With Mensurasoft, you can use the same software for measurement with very different devices, if you have the right driver for every device.

    This system of drivers for measurement devices was developed to use the same software with all apparatuses used in scientific practical works in high schools, with Windows and Linux. It can also help in teaching of computer science, because all usual programming languages can use it. This conference will present the actual postion of this system, with teaching applications, and projects for extend it for fast measurement as oscilloscopes.
